  • Regular or Dark Recipe?
    Our “Regular” fruit cake recipe, a traditional favorite, is more popular than our “Dark” variety; however, the “Dark” cakes contain the same high fruit-and-nut content. The difference lies in the molasses, spices and natural, sun-dried raisins which give the “Dark” cakes their distinctive, darker color. Our “Regular” fruit cakes feature golden raisins and imitation rum flavoring. The “Regular” recipe outsells the “Dark” by approximately eight-to-one, but both offer fruit cake “at its Claxton best!” For initial orders, we recommend the “Regular” recipe.

Best Fruit Cake That I Have Ever Had!

I can't say enough about Claxton Fruit Cake. I grew up in Maryland and my parents always purchased several cakes for Christmas. After I married, I continued the tradition. In fact, I love it so much, I order it all year long because I can't wait until Christmas. It's the best fruit cake on the market!

Growing up in Southern Illinois, I have eaten a lot of fruitcake through the years. (I'm 64) Our family favorite was baked by the Colonial bakery, a commercial bakery in St. Louis, Missouri. My grandfather used to purchase several 3 Lb cakes each year that came in a large tin only at the holidays. Colonial Bakery closed many years ago. I have searched forever trying to find a bakery that made a cake to compare. What luck when 3 years ago, I was driving through Tennessee in December and saw Claxton Fruit Cakes in a convenience store where I had stopped. I bought one and left the store heading back to Illinois. Curiosity got the better of me and I opened the Claxton cake, took out my pocket knife and cut off a large slice. INSTANT HEAVEN! The perfect blend of fruits and nuts in a wonderful light cake. This is the fruitcake I had been searching for. I searched Claxton online and was pleased to see I can order them anytime. I have ordered only the light cakes up until now, but this year I'm ordering 5 light and 5 dark. Don't hesitate, buy some!

I started buying online direct from Claxton three years ago. Stores can't seem to keep them in stock. Buying 10 lb at a time. They freeze well, and the wife and I eat well for the next few months. Haven't found a better fruit cake yet.
